The ASPCA® reports that 5.8 million dogs and cats entered shelters and rescues in 2024, where many live day after day without the love of a family or a home.
Subaru believes that all pets deserve loving homes. That’s why through our Subaru Loves Pets® initiative, Subaru and our retailers are committed to improving the lives of as many shelter animals as possible.
Every October, Subaru retailers partner with local animal welfare organizations to help prepare shelter pets for adoption through grants administered by the ASPCA and host pet events at their store.

Meet the Underdogs
Older and disabled dogs are some of the most vulnerable shelter animals, often overlooked with long waits in shelters without the love of a family or a home. Subaru and our retailers are partnering with local organizations to help these dogs — whom we lovingly call the “Underdogs” — find loving homes.
This year for our 7th-annual National Make A Dog’s Day on October 22, we’re encouraging everyone to do something special for their dog and consider adopting, fostering, or supporting an Underdog as a life-changing way to Make A Dog’s Day.
Our Retailers in Action
Subaru retailers provide direct funding through grants administered by the ASPCA to their local animal welfare partners to help cover costs for preparing animals for adoption, veterinary expenses, and more. Many Subaru retailers also host adoption, microchipping, or other types of events in their stores to help ensure more pets can find loving homes in their communities.
Brunswick Subaru donated $4,000 to One of a Kind Pet Rescue to help prepare pets for adoption and find loving homes. This donation helped One of a Kind Pet Rescue increase their dog adoptions over the previous month by 34, increase their animal intake, and save dogs in dire situations due to hurricanes. They were even able to finally find homes for some of their resident Underdogs who were seniors or had disabilities.
Subaru of Wesley Chapel teamed up with the Tampa Bay Humane Society to host an adoption event full of excitement, joy, and wagging tails. It was a celebration of community and compassion featuring an adorable pet costume parade. Subaru of Wesley Chapel covered all adoption fees and donated 35 pet-parent kits to ensure that new pet parents had everything they needed to care for their new companions.
The Sangera Subaru team partnered with Bakersfield SPCA to host a Fall Low-Cost Vaccine and Microchip Clinic where 300 vaccines were administered and 20 pets were microchipped. By the end of October, 74 dogs and cats were adopted from the Bakersfield SPCA. In recognition of their commitment to finding homes for shelter pets, Sangera Subaru donated $3,100 to the Bakersfield SPCA with plans to continue their partnership through 2025 to help even more pets find the love they deserve.
