Our National Parks are America’s favorite places. They are treasured landscapes and pieces of our history set aside for future generations to explore, but they face a major challenge: how to deal with the over 100 million pounds of trash left behind by visitors every year.
To help our parks better manage this challenge, the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) — the nation’s foremost parks advocacy group — and Subaru of America — one of the nation’s leading innovators in zero-landfill strategies — joined forces to see how Subaru’s zero-landfill experience could be applied to help our National Parks.
The partnership’s first year, 2015, focused on identifying three pilot parks: Denali, Grand Teton, and Yosemite National Parks. Developing baseline waste/diversion data, engaging stakeholders, brainstorming ideas, and developing park-specific zero-landfill action plans is the focus of this groundbreaking partnership.
