This feature allows hands-free operation when conditions permit. Hands-Free Assist is not a substitute for active driver involvement. Â
This feature is standard on the 2026 and 2027 Outback Touring and Touring XT, the 2027 Limited XT, and available on the 2027 Outback Wilderness. This feature is only accessible with a MySubaru Companion or Companion+ subscription.
Hands-Free Assist is supported on dynamic mapped roads, which include mapped expressways, freeways, or interstate highways.
If Hands-Free Assist is operating and the driver signals a lane change on mapped expressways, freeways, or interstate highways while driving at speeds between approximately 50 mph and 85 mph, the system can assist you by operating the steering wheel to change lanes in the direction that you have signaled. Â
When Hands-Free Assist is operating while you are on mapped expressways, freeways, or interstate highways, as you approach a curve, the system can adjust your speed based on its radius. This function uses the set vehicle speed of Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control as the upper limit. Â
While Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control is operating on a mapped expressway, freeway or interstate highway, if your vehicle stops because the vehicle ahead has stopped, it will automatically resume driving if the vehicle ahead resumes within approximately 30 seconds.
This feature activates if the driver becomes unresponsive to warnings while using Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control. The system is designed to change lanes if needed to pull the vehicle over to the shoulder, activate the hazard lamps, notify emergency services, and unlock the doors for first responders.Â
Once Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering is engaged, Hands-Free Assist can operate on compatible mapped roads when system, roadway, and driver-monitoring conditions are met. See your Owner’s Manual for complete operating information.  Â
When Hands-Free Assist starts operating, a notification screen is displayed, the Adaptive Cruise Control indicator changes to blue, and Lane Centering indicator changes from green to blue. Â
To prevent Hands-Free Assist from engaging, do not use Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering.Â
