2021 Oregon Trail Rally Preview

SUBARU TO WRAP UP RALLY SEASON AT OREGON TRAIL
The 2021 American Rally Association (ARA) championship season wraps up November 5-7 at Oregon Trail Rally, the year’s only three-day event and home to some of the most iconic scenery on the U.S. rally calendar! Although Travis Pastrana and Rhianon Gelsomino have mathematically secured the driver’s and co-driver’s championships, the newfound freedom from title implications means Pastrana can now race all-out in a three-way fight for the event win.

By contrast, the battle for second place in the championship is far from over as Brandon Semenuk in the second Subaru Motorsports USA machine remains within striking distance of second-place Ken Block in the Hoonigan Racing Division WRX STI. Semenuk, fresh from a record-setting fourth win at this year’s Red Bull Rampage freeride mountain bike event, will be pushing hard to make up the fifteen-point gap against his rival. With Pastrana, Semenuk and Block all in equal machinery and experienced at Oregon Trail, the stage is set for a thrilling finish to the season.

Weather and road conditions remain a wild card for this year’s event, which has been rescheduled from its normal May timing to an uncharacteristic autumn date. Current forecasts predict daily high temperatures in the 50’s with potential rain showers, which will make tire choices a critical consideration.

Starting out with two fun super special stages in front of the fans at PIR then heading east to the hills for some of the fastest and most flowing roads in the championship. I’ve competed in this rally more than any other in the US championship and although I lost a lot of those battles to David Higgins, it was always some of the tightest racing of the year.“
