- Why Subaru
Subaru cares about pets, so we support organizations that do good for them.
According to the ASPCA®, each year approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters. At Subaru, we are committed to keeping all animals—including those in shelters—safe and healthy.
During the month of October, through the Subaru Loves Pets initiative, Subaru retailers are collecting new pet supplies to donate to local animal organizations in our communities, and providing shelter supply kits for our furry friends awaiting adoption. We’ll also donate starter kits for new pet-adopting families.
You can help by visiting a participating Subaru retailer, and bringing new pet supplies for donation.
Since 2015, Subaru retailers have partnered with local animal welfare organizations through the Subaru Loves Pets initiative to impact over 144,000 animals in need across the country.
The Center for Pet Safety is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit research and advocacy organization dedicated to companion animal and consumer safety.
Subaru recognizes the importance of keeping the entire family safe on the road. That's one of the reasons Subaru sponsored two studies conducted by the Center for Pet Safety to crash-test commonly used pet safety products. Animal Welfare Association (AWA), a private, nonprofit organization, operates the oldest and largest low-cost spay/neuter clinic, adoption center, and no-kill animal shelter in South Jersey. Programs include pet adoptions, veterinary services, pet therapy, trap-neuter-return, and humane education for all.
In the last hour of an AWA Camden Pet Care Day, an older woman in a wheelchair arrived with her 13-year-old Akita named Snowball. Snowball had several noticeable health issues, including hair loss and weakness when standing. The woman was unable to visit a veterinarian since she didn't drive and couldn’t transport Snowball on the bus or in a taxi. Due to her limitations, she was giving him human medications to treat his pain and unknowingly was putting his poor health at even greater risk. AWA knew Snowball needed a more extensive examination and arranged to transport him to AWA’s Pet Clinic in Voorhees, N.J. After his exam by one of our vets, we provided Snowball with appropriate medications, vaccinations, and a special shampoo to make him more comfortable.
AWA is grateful to Subaru of America for their generous sponsorship of $6,500 and commend the company for its strong commitment to giving back to the community. This generous financial support changes the lives of pets like Snowball and owners who desperately need assistance. In addition to financial support, Subaru of America employees volunteered more than 225 hours working on various projects at the shelter.

Southeastern Guide Dogs is a non-profit organization dedicated solely to the task of helping blind men and women achieve independence through the means of a guide dog.
Subaru works with the Southeastern Guide Dogs, by sponsoring a number of events that fund the training and development of guide dogs, who will ultimately be paired with people who need them.
We would like to thank Subaru of America for inviting us to be a part of the 2018 Subiefest Midwest event and for the generous donation collected through people giving and signing a wrapped Subaru car at the event. Special thanks to Hawk Subaru of Joliet for suggesting Hopeful Tails as they planned Subiefest! In appreciation of all their efforts for us, we have named a litter of puppies after Subaru vehicles. There are five puppies total in this litter and here are three of them.
Being a nonprofit means that donations like Subaru of America's enable us to continue to serve our community and animals in need. Every month we face the challenge of covering our overhead expenses while providing the critical medical care necessary to keep all of our dogs happy and healthy. We truly appreciate support opportunities like this – thank you again, Subaru!
