According to the ASPCA®, nearly 6.3 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide every year, where many live day after day without the love of a family or a home.
Subaru believes all pets deserve a loving home and that’s why we are the largest corporate donor to the ASPCA. Through our Subaru Loves Pets® initiative, Subaru and our retailers have been committed to improving the lives of as many shelter animals as possible.
Pets make the world a better place. Subaru is proud to help make the world a better place for them with over $52 million donated to national and local organizations, which has supported the adoption, rescue, transport, and health of over 480,000 animals.
Each October, for Subaru Loves Pets Month, Subaru and our retailers partner with hundreds of local animal shelters, hosting adoption events and providing direct financial assistance to aid in shelter support and pet adoptions. We’re proud of our dedicated retailers across the country who are helping animals find loving homes.
Haddad Subaru partnered with the Berkshire Humane Society to help stock their community pet food bank with a “Fill a Subie” event. Haddad Subaru asked the public to fill a Forester with pet food to earn a shopping spree at Benson’s Pet Center in Pittsfield. John Perreault and Cindy Bartlett put on their best running shoes and shopped 'til they dropped! The food they gathered is crucial to the mission of the food bank, allowing those in need to feed their pets, which helps keep those animals in loving homes and out of shelters.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, many animal shelters in Southwest Florida were damaged and their animals needed to be evacuated. Subaru of Naples partnered with Humane Society Naples to help the majority of the more than 400 animals brought there reach new shelters across the country. Subaru of Naples and Humane Society Naples assembled transport crates and used their donated Subaru Ascent to ferry loads of animals to the Naples Airport for the inaugural flight of the nonprofit Race for Life Rescue.
Treasure Valley Subaru and the Idaho Humane Society teamed up for their annual free microchipping event on May 5, 2023. Pet owners from all over the region came together to take advantage of this amazing opportunity to keep their furry friends safe. Treasure Valley Subaru sponsored the first 100 participants just as they had during last year’s microchipping event and even put on a fiesta-style taco bar. Treasure Valley Subaru had previously partnered with the Idaho Humane Society to help 63 animals in need of a home, donated 384 pounds of cat food, and helped cover the veterinary costs of injured and disabled shelter dogs.
With plenty of efforts taking place year-round, contact your local Subaru retailer to learn more about how you can help a pet in need.
Shelter dogs with special needs wait far longer to be adopted. But in 2023, Subaru helped many of these special Underdogs find loving homes. Thanks to the support of over 600 Subaru retailers and partner shelters nationwide, our Subaru Loves Pets® initiative and 5th annual National Make a Dog’s Day celebration helped over 52,000 shelter pets find loving homes. This achievement brings our total number of adopted pets to over 157,000 since the program began. It’s all a part of our ongoing commitment to providing the love and support every pet deserves.
