Subaru Vehicles We’re Looking For

Low-Mileage Group

Starting at 10,000 Miles

1 or more years in service

High-Mileage Group

Starting at 50,000 Miles

4 or more years in service

We are randomly selecting current Subaru owners from three different regions of the country and conducting vehicle emissions testing based on model, mileage, and age. Eligible vehicles for participation must fall into one of the two emissions testing groups – the Low-Mileage Group (vehicles with at least 10,000 miles and approximately one year in service) or the High-Mileage Group (vehicles with at least 50,000 miles and approximately four years in service). The High-Mileage Group testing includes vehicles that have over 100,000 miles with more than four years of service visits.

Owners near a testing facility in each region will be sent an invitation by mail that includes a questionnaire, program details, and a return envelope with prepaid postage. The information owners provide will be screened for eligibility to participate in the program.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, your participation is entirely voluntary.

By regulation, owners are chosen from a randomized list and cannot “volunteer” for the In-Use Verification Program. For more information, click here.

By participating and if selected, you’ll receive monetary compensation via check, a free vehicle wash and full tank of gas, and a complimentary rental while your vehicle is used for testing. You will also help Subaru of America, Inc., the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) improve air quality by monitoring emissions.

Vehicle testing is conducted at lab facilities in California, Colorado, and Michigan.

Usually 2-3 weeks for a test, but scheduling and logistics may increase the time. We will provide information about any delay.

Our contracted third-party company will coordinate the pickup of your vehicle and its exchange with a rental at your home, office, or an agreed-upon location.

You will receive your compensation check in person when your vehicle is returned to you after testing is complete.

Participants will be provided a newer-model rental vehicle to drive while testing is being performed.

The program requires test vehicles have at least 10,000 miles for the Low-Mileage Group and at least 50,000 miles for the High-Mileage Group. If your vehicle’s mileage doesn’t meet these requirements, you can still complete and return the response card you received (with the anticipated date you will have the minimum miles) by mail. Our third-party contract company will ask for updated mileage if your vehicle is needed for testing.

No. Participating in this program will NOT affect your vehicle’s warranty.

Approximately 100-150 miles. Total mileage will vary depending on the number and types of tests performed and the distance driven to and from the testing facility.

During testing, your vehicle will be insured by Subaru of America, Inc. or our contracted third-party company. Vehicles being tested will be stored inside the test facility or locked in a secure parking area.

Subaru of America, Inc. will coordinate with your local Subaru retailer to repair/replace parts affecting vehicle emissions found during testing at no cost to you while keeping the faulty parts for investigation. Missed maintenances like oil changes, tire rotations, etc., will not be performed through this program.

In compliance with this program, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) require the procurement of vehicles from individual owners. Other vehicles may not be representative of real-world driver use.

Our third-party contract company is responsible for contacting eligible Subaru owners about this program. If you have any concerns, please contact us at: iuvp@subaru.com.
