Subaru of America Foundation

Overview and Impact

The Subaru of America Foundation was established in 1984 with the goal of supporting the communities where we live and work. Today, we are proud to say that we have not stopped pursuing this goal and have awarded over $9 million through grants, scholarships and matching employee gifts to various programs. With a focus on children and young adults, we believe that together we can help build the next generation of leaders.

Over the last year, the Subaru of America Foundation has awarded over $1.2 million to more than 80 organizations around the nation. With a focus on education, work readiness and employment training, we pride ourselves in investing in organizations that are making visible differences in the communities they serve. This focus on corporate responsibility is an integral part of our Love Promise.

Volunteerism

Subaru believes in giving everyone the opportunity to live a healthy, happy life and are privileged to give back to our communities. In 2018, Subaru participated in 165 volunteer events, totaling more than 7,400 hours with 120 organizations.

Grants

The Subaru of America Foundation aims to support the work of organizations that are empowering the growth and development of children and young adults through career exploration with relevance to job readiness and job skills training.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have applied for a grant. What now?

All requests are reviewed by the Foundation manager and those that fit the guidelines are then considered by our contributions committee. This is a competitive process, and submission of a proposal does not guarantee receipt of a grant. The grant process takes approximately five to six months to complete.

I am having difficulty accessing the application. Help!

Applications will be available about two months prior to the stated deadline, and will be taken offline the day after the deadline dates. Applications started but not submitted will no longer be available once the application is taken offline.

Can I apply for a grant in each grant cycle?

No. Only one application per organization can be considered in a 12-month period. Also, organizations that have received three consecutive grants must take a one-year break in funding.

I am taken to the Blackbaud site when I click the application link. Is this correct?

Yes. Blackbaud hosts the application site, and you can create a free account. When creating a new account, please make sure your sign-in and password are able to be shared and accessed by appropriate members of your team. Think about what would happen to a pending or awarded application if the preparer leaves your organization.

Why are the form fields not functional in the application?

Be sure to check that you are accessing the application via Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. The applications are not fully functional in Chrome or Edge.

What are the application deadlines and grant announcement dates?

There are two funding cycles annually with application deadlines of March 30 and October 12. The applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on the due date. Awards will be announced in September and February, respectively.

Do you consider grants to locations outside of your geographic focus?

Due to the volume of proposals received for each cycle, we cannot consider grants in locations outside of those specifically noted in the section Where We Fund.

I am a Subaru Share the Love Hometown Charity, partnering with one of your retailers. Am I eligible to apply also for a Subaru of America Foundation grant?

  • Fraternal and labor organizations
  • Government agencies
  • Direct support of churches, religious, or sectarian groups
