Diversity and Inclusion
To effectively address diversity and inclusion, Subaru executive management established The Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council, which is comprised of a diverse group of more than a dozen leaders within the company, with a mission to further develop Subaru's diversity and inclusion efforts. The Council established Subaru’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, which includes representation from all levels across the company. The work of both groups has led to an increase in diversity within our company, along with a broad range of outcomes to meet the needs of our increasingly diverse workforce, including domestic partner benefits, flex time, a mentoring and networking program, and a lactation room to name just a few.
In addition to Subaru’s work to champion diversity and inclusion within its four walls, we actively seek ways to increase diversity and inclusion across our network of retailers. To help with this effort, Subaru has developed a long-standing relationship with the National Association of Minority Auto Dealers (NAMAD). For more than 15 years, we have worked closely with NAMAD in our efforts to develop a more diverse retailer body.
We also work to build relationships with suppliers who show a commitment to diversity and inclusion. This is because we understand that diverse business perspectives produce a better business environment. Subaru expects new and existing suppliers to embrace our focus on the benefits of diversity and inclusion. To better ensure we work with suppliers who place the same value on diversity and inclusion as we do, we:
Our Commitment to Diversity
Subaru of America also has a rich history of reaching and supporting a diverse customer base. We have partnered with organizations such as the Human Rights Coalition, Rainbow PUSH, LOGO TV Network, PFLAG, Dining Out for Life, and Urban Wheels to broaden our reach among diverse communities. And to better serve our increasingly diverse customer base, we have customer retailer service representatives who are fluent in Spanish, and we offer our “Certified Pre-Owned” and “Added Security Mechanical and Maintenance” brochures in Spanish. In addition, Subaru web pages are available in Chinese, and we look to continue expanding the number of languages we offer translated content in.
Subaru was named one of the best places to work in 2017 by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, and is an employer rated in the Corporate Equality Index 2017 that provides at least one transgender-inclusive healthcare coverage plan.
Subaru is the lead funder of the Penn State Public Broadcasting documentary “Water Blues, Green Solutions,” and we congratulate our partner Penn State University for being selected as a recipient of the 2013 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award.
