- Why Subaru
December 21, 2009 - Before the clock strikes midnight on the East Coast on December 31, Travis Pastrana will attempt to accomplish the first ever ramp-to-ramp car jump over water, a feat that will test the laws of physics and take his career to yet another level. The action sports legend and Subaru Rally Team USA driver will attempt to shatter the world record for distance jumping in a rally car as part of the Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. event series. Pastrana will be driving a Vermont SportsCar prepared Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally car off of the Pine Street Pier in Long Beach (Calif.) and attempt to land over 250ft away on a barge floating in the harbor.
Vermont SportsCar is a technical partner on the stunt and has prepared the Subaru jump car as well as conducted extensive testing with the car over the past two months. The Vermont SportsCar prepared Subaru is a modified version of Travis Pastana's usual rally car that he campaigns in the Rally America National Championship with the Vermont SportsCar run Subaru Rally Team USA squad.
Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. will be televised live on ESPN/ESPN HD on Thursday, December 31, immediately following the Chick-Fil-A Bowl (approx. 11:00 p.m. ET / 8:00 p.m. PT). Viewing of Pastrana's jump will be free to the thousands of revelers in downtown Long Beach. The stunt will be part of ESPN TV's live East Coast New Year's Eve show - historically one of the most watched television productions of the night, second only to Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve. Following the jump, festivities will continue along the waterfront with music, dancing and a flurry of exciting events leading up to Midnight.
