The 2018 Subaru Outback features upgrades to its technology, comfort, and style — on top of Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive + 32 MPG**, a spacious and comfortable interior, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance. And it’s still the longest-lasting vehicle in its class.

Go-Everywhere Capability

Legendary Subaru Symmetrical AWD + 32 MPG**

Designed for optimal balance and an even distribution of power for maximum traction, standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive makes for exceptional stability, impressive efficiency, and a quick response to conditions. Durable SUBARU BOXER® engines combine with a Lineartronic® CVT to deliver up to a fuel-efficient 32 MPG** highway. If even more capability is needed, a 256-hp 6-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® engine is also available.

Updated, More Rugged Exterior

Redesigned for 2018, the Outback stands out with updated front and rear bumpers; a new, more prominent grille; and advanced lighting technology. Limited models also feature an all-new 18-inch wheel design that looks right at home on- or off-road.

Longest-lasting Vehicle in Its Class

The Subaru Outback is the longest-lasting vehicle in its class, which should come as no surprise because 98% of Subaru vehicles sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today. Just a couple of the reasons why the Outback retains its value better than any other vehicle in its class according to ALG.

8.7 Inches of Ground Clearance and X-MODE®

Conquer almost any terrain with 8.7 inches of ground clearance and standard X-MODE, which provides electronic optimization of the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system for maximum traction on low-friction surfaces. X-MODE also incorporates Hill Descent Control for stability and confidence when descending more difficult grades.

Comfortable Environment

An updated STARLINK Multimedia system comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Pandora® integration. Wireless pairing and hands-free smartphone operation allow for safe and easy connection to your favorite apps and content. Access news, navigation, music, podcasts, audiobooks, and more through available STARLINK apps and SiriusXM® Satellite Radio. All on a newly available 8-inch touch-screen.

Power Rear Gate

Open and close the available power rear gate with the push of a button on your key fob, by controls on the dashboard, or on the gate itself. In addition, the opening height can be adjusted when clearance is limited.

Spacious, Upgraded Interior

Inside, the Outback interior — with its spacious 108.1 cubic feet of passenger room — has been restyled for a more refined feel and enhanced comfort. It features upgraded materials and new finishes, including stitched dashboard and door panel trim. For 2018, the Outback’s interior is now quieter with the addition of noise-reducing laminated front side glass and side mirrors that are more aerodynamic.

Safe and Secure

EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology

EyeSight monitors traffic movement, optimizes cruise control, and warns you when you’re swaying outside your lane. The Pre-Collision Braking feature can even apply full braking force and bring you to a complete stop in emergency situations. It’s another way Subaru designs vehicles with your safety in mind. Available on select models.

Active Safety

Outback offers a host of available active safety technologies. Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist warns you with a visual indicator in each side mirror if it senses a vehicle in your blind spots, while Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Reverse Automatic Braking, and a standard Rear-Vision Camera assist while backing up. Together with EyeSight, they provide an all-around suite of awareness and safety.

SUBARU STARLINK Safety and Security

Whether you're on the road, at your computer, or on your mobile device, STARLINK Safety and Securitycan help keep you and your Outback safe. Safety and Security services include Automatic Collision Notification, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Recovery, and added convenience with Remote Services.

LED Steering Responsive Headlights and High Beam Assist

Get a clearer look around every bend with available LED Steering Responsive Headlights, which actively track in the direction of a turn to enhance visibility. Available High Beam Assist can automatically switch the headlights between the high and low settings when an oncoming vehicle is detected, enhancing safety for both you and other drivers on the road.
