Rapid changes in weather and bright fall foliage mark the Lake Superior Rally as one of the most exciting and beautiful rallies on the 2009 championship schedule. Headquartered in the town of Houghton, MI, the area is rich in mining history and outdoor activities. The race begins in Houghton, which is located in the middle of the Keweenaw Peninsula in northern Michigan. It then heads north, snaking its way up into the tip of the Peninsula, with beautiful views of Lake Superior along the way. Stunning, autumn blue skies can turn to heavy rain, sleet or even snow in a matter of minutes, which means that drivers must stay on their toes for the entirety of the race.
