Video - Bucky Lasek Rail Grinds his Subaru PUMA Rallycross STI at GRC Texas
By: Subaru - June 11, 2012
In the hectic heat race action during Global Rallycross Texas, Subaru Factory Team driver Bucky Lasek found himself stuck behind an ailing Liam Doran leading up to the 50-foot gap jump. When his rhythm and speed up the launch ramp was interrupted, Lasek was forced to made a split-second decision to abort the take-off opting instead to "exit stage left". Miraculously, or perhaps as intended, Lasek performed a perfect gap to 50/50 rail grind in his Subaru PUMA RallyCross STI. Although the car landed back on its four wheels, the impact broke the rear axle and Lasek was unable to continue.
There was certainly no shortage of excitement during race day at round two of the 2012 Global RallyCross in Fort Worth, Texas. While SUBARU PUMA RallyCross Team USA was kept off the podium, they were front and center for much of the drama throughout the day's racing.
In the first heat, Sverre Isachsen led the pack off the line and drove the #11 Subaru WRX STI with aplomb to secure a spot in the A-final race with a second place finish in his heat. SUBARU PUMA RallyCross Team USA's Bucky Lasek finished fourth in that same heat and was seated in the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). Dave Mirra in the #40 WRX STI was also placed in an LCQ, where he put up a tough fight and finished just a few seconds short of advancing to the final.
SUBARU PUMA RallyCross Team USA is in Fort Worth, Texas, for "Hoon Kaboom," the second round of the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship. In preparation for Saturday's main event, teams ran testing and seeding laps today. Organizers are still making final decisions on track layout, which is currently very similar to the course at Charlotte last month. The GRC Open Heat Races & Feature Event are scheduled to run from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Saturday and will be followed by the IZOD IndyCar Series Firestone 550. Visit texasmotorspeedway.com for tickets and event information.
On the heels of the History 300 Nationwide Series race, the first round of the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship commenced in front of a cheering crowd at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Two sets of qualifying rounds preceded the last-chance qualifier and the final race on an all-tarmac course. The SUBARU PUMA RallyCross Team USA cars performed competitively but were edged out of a podium finish. It is a disappointing result given the tireless hours and hard work put into preparing the cars for this event; however, the team will have another shot at the GRC podium when the series continues at the Texas Motor Speedway in just two weeks.
