Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins logged a dramatic season while piloting his 2011 Subaru STI across the United States. David won the 2011 Rally America National Championship after racking up three event wins and five podium finishes in six events. David Higgins also set a new course record at the legendary Mt. Washington 'Climb to the Clouds' Hillclimb, and raced to podium finishes at his inaugural runs in both X Games 17 and the Global RallyCross Championship.

David went onto win the 1997, 1999 and 2002 British Rally Championship in the Group N Class. SRT USA #75 on the Podium at STPR

By: Subaru - June 02, 2013

David Higgins and Craig Drew had an amazing comeback during Day 2 of the STPR rally. Starting in 21st place overall, getting onto the podium was a daunting, but welcomed challenge. SRT USA #75 rocketed off the line on Stage 6 and all was going to plan, until after about 8 miles in a left 3 turn, the car kicked out unexpectedly. Two large trees loomed on the outside while David and Craig thought they were going to crash. They tensed and waited for the impact, but...nothing. They pulled back onto the road and Craig Drew continued calmly as if nothing had happened "...as I said, fast right long, 100, left 4..." Once clear of the Stage 6 finish, David Higgins commented "Now that's some precision parking!"

Disappointing Day 1 at STPR

By: Subaru - June 01, 2013

<

The 2013 STPR rally got off to a disappointing start for Subaru Rally Team USA today. After successfully completing the first two stages, the #75 WRX STI broke a tie-rod end on the third stage. David Higgins and Craig Drew stopped on-stage and attempted to make repairs, but ran out of time. The team decided to accept the time penalty (11 minutes) for not completing today's stages and will re-enter tomorrow under SuperRally rules. Although disappointing, the vast majority of stage miles remain and a good result is still very possible. SRT USA #75 will be in the #2 start slot for Saturday's stages. The first stage SS6 - Phasa, gets underway at 10:20am.

The Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally (STPR) is underway in sunny and beautiful Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. Fifty four teams traversed hundreds of miles on back roads today during the course recce. This course inspection allows teams to preview the road conditions and fine tune their stage notes for both speed and safety. Several days of rain left the roads damp with little or no dust, however, this could change if hot temperatures persist without any new precipitation. David Higgins and Craig Drew took multiple passes on the Shakedown stage and found their 2013 Subaru WRX STI to be performing perfectly. The extremely fast and flowing Pennsylvania roads will provide an ideal battleground as the teams charge into the forests...

Once we amassed a big lead it afforded us the opportunity to really dial back the speed on Sunday and reduce the risks. We didn't win stages outright but knew it was the right strategy for victory. This is a very challenging event and I enjoy the big mix of character in the stages. This event has everything." SRT USA #75 Extends Lead after Day 2 in Oregon

David Higgins and Craig Drew had a flawless Day 2 at the Oregon Trail Rally extending their lead to nearly three minutes! Running eight stages totaling just over fifty competitive miles, the 2013 Subaru WRX STI performed like a true champion. The conditions were dry and dusty, but a stiff breeze kept the dust at bay. SRT USA #75 was first on the road, but since lingering dust was not a factor, this start position was not ideal. The first few cars sweep away the loose gravel, revealing a much firmer road surface. Additionally, the lack of tracks and driving lines also add to the work load and challenges encountered at extreme speeds. Despite this, David Higgins and Craig Drew never missed a beat and...

Starting Day 2 with a massive lead, SRT USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew had few concerns as they climbed into their Subaru WRX STI. Ironically, David explained at the start, their one worry was driving slowly. "Anytime you try to slow down or drive conservatively you can lose your focus and make a mistake." It appears the duo didn't slow much as they proceeded to more than double their lead, winning the 2013 100 Acre Wood Rally by 8 minutes and 51 seconds. The road surfaces continued to be a challenge with some sections turning soft and muddy while shaded areas remained solidly frozen and very slippery. Regardless of the road surfaces, the Missouri spectators were out in force and determined to catch a glimpse of the action...

SRT USA is off to a fantastic start at the 2013 100 Acre Wood Rally. As expected, the weather stayed below freezing and clouds gave way to sunshine and clear skies as evening arrived. Surfaces ranged from unplowed snow covered roads in the morning to a tricky mix of grippy wet gravel and packed snow. This is an especially challenging surface combination since the grip can drastically change mid-turn sending cars off their intended line and possibly off the road entirely.

David Higgins is determined to charge for the win in his #75 Subaru WRX STI, however, in light of the demanding conditions a more patient approach could be prudent. The storm has passed, but with temperatures hovering around freezing snow and ice is likely to remain on the course throughout the event.

Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew have piloted their white #1 Subaru STI to second place at the 2012 Olympus Rally outside of Olympia, WA. Dangerously dry conditions and still air resulted in heavy, lingering dust. During Saturday's nighttime stages, the poor visibility was compounded by driving lights such that racers couldn't see the road at all in some sections. "We had an off going literally six miles per hour," Craig Drew recalled. "I knew we were coming to junctions when I saw the marshals' vests reflecting our headlights, and then it was brake, brake, brake!," said Higgins.

The first few stages went relatively well for the SRT USA duo in the white #1 Subaru. The seeded draw placed Higgins and Drew fifth on the road, so dust was a significant factor. Despite slowing to a near standstill in some spots of particularly bad visibility, they put in competitive times and finished second or third on each of the first three stages.

A cold calm set in as teams prepared for another day of racing near Salem, Missouri. Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew were 18.6 seconds behind first place at the start of Day 2 of the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood. The plan was simple: proceed with normal effort through the first two stages; and if the gap starts closing, push for the rest of the race. With their major Rally America National Championship rivals out of the running, any finish on the podium would suffice and excessive risks would be futile.

David and Craig won Stage 2, but lost some time in the subsequent stages and ended the day just 18 seconds behind the lead.
