At his first opportunity David started rallying and was invited to drive in the team that Richard Burns drove for in the Peugeot 205 Challenge.
David went onto win the 1997, 1999 and 2002 British Rally Championship in the Group N Class. In 2002 he also came to America as a privateer and won the SCCA Pro Rally Championship (Now known as Rally America) while driving a Subaru. He repeated his success in 2003 winning six events and again claiming the SCCA Pro Rally Championship. For 2004 it was back to Britain where David contested the full season and became the British Rally Champion. David also began rallying in the ultra-competitive Chinese Rally Championship in 2004 where he helped his team win the Team's Championship in 2004, 2007 and 2009 (foreign drivers can't score individual points).
David Higgins was born in 1972 on the Isle of Man. He now lives in Trefeglwys, Mid Wales, with his wife Kara and his children Alicia and Matthew. David and his family operate "The Forest Experience Rally School". The school is well known and respected for offering world class rally driving instruction to all levels of driver. David was on-hand for Travis Pastrana's first test session with Vermont SportsCar in 2004 and provided instruction to Pastrana as well as gave feedback to the team regarding Pastrana's potential behind the wheel, which in turn led Vermont SportsCar and Subaru to begin a development program with Pastrana.
In less than a week, a fierce competition will kick off in Missouri's Ozark Mountains. After an extremely slippery Sno*Drift event last month, the hungry rally machine is craving fast gravel roads! David Higgins and Craig Drew are determined to break the 5-year winning streak held by former SRT USA driver Ken Block and are confident the 2012 Subaru WRX STI is the car to do it. Check back next week for race updates and photos.
The 2011 Susquehannock Trail Rally began today under clear blue skies with warm summer temperatures and plenty of dust. Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew were first on the road in the #75 WRX STI. Next up were Dave Mirra and Marshall Clarke in SRT USA #40.
With the cancellation of Stage 2, only twenty of the event's one-hundred twenty-five stage miles have been run. Stages 1 and 3 took place on the Waste Management course, an extremely rough and technical nine miles that has damaged rally cars in the past. This was David Higgins' first time on the stage and he chose to take a cautious approach in driving style and in the use of a hard-compound tire.
Subaru of America, Inc. has announced that it would be returning to the RallyCar National Championship in the Open class with a 2-car program in 2011. By: Subaru - November 29, 2011
Subaru Rally Team USA driver David Higgins has finished 2nd Overall at the hotly contested 2011 Rally of the Tall Pines in Bancroft, Ontario. Higgins and the Subaru Rally Team USA squad attended the Tall Pines Rally, the final round of the Canadian Rally Championship, to test various development components on their Vermont SportsCar-prepared 2011 Subaru Impreza STI rally car ahead of the 2012 Rally America National Championship. For Higgins, the 2011 Rally America Champion, this was the first time attending the Tall Pines Rally and he notes it was one of the most challenging events of his career.
The storyline and the results of the 2012 Oregon Trail Rally mimicked the 2011 edition of the event with Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins again leading from the start and pulling away for victory. The win, his fourth Oregon Trail Rally career victory, vaults Higgins even farther out of reach of his rivals in the points standings as he seeks to defend his 2011 Rally America Championship title. Higgins and his co-driver Craig Drew kept their mettle while at the wheel of their BFGoodrich Tires-shod 2012 Subaru WRX STI after their closest challenger dropped out of the event and Higgins ran nearly unchallenged for a large portion of the event.

On the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Mt. Washington Auto Road, Subaru Rally Team USA has entered driver David Higgins in a race to the 6,288 foot summit, known as the "Climb to the Clouds." First raced in 1904, the 7.6 mile ascent is the oldest motorsports event in the United States. This year, SRT USA's David Higgins will be campaigning this historic event in a 2011 Subaru WRX STI with more than ten times the horsepower of the vehicle that won the inaugural event. All of that power coupled with Subaru's incomparable Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive certainly provides a fantastic platform for attacking this mountain.
At the conclusion of Day 2 at the 2011 Oregon Trail Rally, Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew have amassed a staggering three-and-a-half minute lead. Starting the day in first place, the duo were in the best spot on the road, staying ahead of the dust clouds being kicked up on the dry stage roads. That advantage was, however, diminished by a minor brake issue which left them with front brakes only for three stages. Unwilling to relinquish their lead, SRT USA #75 kept pushing and lost minimal time. The issue was quickly resolved when the car returned to service and Higgins and Drew set out again as the weather began to turn.

Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew dominated at the 2012 Sno*Drift Rally in Atlanta, Michigan. Driving a 2012 Subaru WRX STI, the duo took the lead early on and never looked back winning the event by nearly two minutes. "The completely unpredictable surface conditions and our lack of experience in winter rallying made for a huge challenge," said Higgins after the race, "but I feel, after this, we've proved ourselves in the snow." This decisive win has given SRT USA the initial points lead in the 2012 Rally America National Championship.
Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew have won Sno*Drift, the first round of the 2012 Rally America National Championship. Though their 2012 Subaru WRX STI performed flawlessly and they walked away with a massive lead of 1 minute 48 seconds, the victory was not won without a fight. Although Friday's conditions were somewhat disappointing for a winter rally, Sno*Drift earned its moniker with a substantial dumping of powder early Saturday morning. "The completely unpredictable surface conditions and our lack of experience in winter rallying made for a huge challenge," said Higgins after the race, "but I feel, after this, we've proved ourselves in the snow."
Subaru Rally Team USA’s David Higgins and Craig Drew have accrued a phenomenal lead during day 2 of the 2012 Oregon Trail Rally. Winning five of the day’s seven stages, SRT USA #75 is two minutes and fifty-four seconds ahead of the competition. While they’ve done well overall, the day got off to a rough start with a dramatic surface change that resulted in a nearly race-ending off. With teeth clenched, Higgins kept the throttle pinned while his 2012 Subaru WRX STI clawed itself back onto the road.

The X Games 17 RallyCross finals concluded in a heated battle of eight cars attacking downtown LA's South Figueroa Street in a cacophony of engine noise and squealing tires. Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Dave Mirra cleanly negotiated the carnage at the first turn and slipped into second and third place. David Higgins suffered significant damage to SRT USA #75 when a high-speed spin late in the race resulted in a collision with the wall. Although his Subaru persevered throughout the remainder of the race, Higgins had lost too much time and finished sixth. Dave Mirra displayed excellent skill and drove a terrific race overall.
Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew are eager to defend their Rally America National Championship title in SRT USA #75. With two days of winter testing completed, the 2012 Subaru WRX STI is ready to take on the winter roads of Michigan at the Sno*Drift Rally. This will perhaps be the most challenging event of the season, as significant rainfall in the past week has formed up to an inch of hard, clear ice on many of the stage roads.

This weekend's rally saw a tight race between David Higgins and 2010 Rally America National Champion Antoine L'Estage. As Higgins warmed up to the event on the first day of racing, Antoine gained a 20-second lead. Higgins turned up the heat Saturday morning in an attempt to bridge the gap, but a spin cost him 30 seconds and he remained in second place despite winning four of the day's ten stages.

The third event of the 2012 Rally America National Championship brings teams to the Pacific Northwest for the Oregon Trail Rally. As in years past, fans flocked to Portland International Raceway to see the action on the first day of racing. Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew are off to a fantastic start, winning all four stages of the day and gaining a lead of nine seconds in just eight stage miles. Running BFGoodrich rallycross tires was an excellent choice as it allowed the Vermont SportsCar prepared 2012 Subaru WRX STI to put down all of its power on the mixed tarmac and gravel surfaces at the track.
Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Dave Mirra were back in action on the West Coast today in their 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STIs during Day 1 of the Olympus Rally. David Higgins and Craig Drew rocketed ahead to win four of the Saturday’s six stages and ending the day in first place. Dave Mirra and Marshall Clarke in the #40 WRX STI kept on-pace, holding fast to their fourth-place start position and keeping the podium well within reach. Spectators took advantage of a beautiful, sunny day and flocked to the hillsides to watch the rally.
As the temperatures lingered below freezing in Lewiston, Michigan, portly snowflakes fell lazily from the sky. Several minutes before three o'clock, rally cars began their screaming launch from the start of Stage 1. Within the first three stages, the first car on the road had overshot a turn and become entrenched in loose snow. Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew, who were a mere 19 seconds behind in car #75, now had a two minute advantage over their closest competitor. This sizable lead grew as the racing continued into the night.
Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew have won the 2011 Susquehannock Trail Rally after an unbelievably tense final day of racing. Higgins and Drew started the day fourteen seconds down and steadily regained lost ground, edging into the lead by five seconds at the end of Stage 7. On the following stage, disaster struck when the in-car intercom system stopped working. At the same time, a sudden rain storm turned the surface from hard gravel to a fine mud that seemed slick as ice. The team struggled to keep up speed through the stage, with Craig using hand signals to indicate crucial stage notes while David combatted limited visibility and treacherous road conditions.

Subaru Rally Team USA has landed in Colorado Springs for the final round of the Global Rallycross Championship at Pikes Peak International Raceway. This event, labeled Last Chance, features two separate days of racing with the one-on-one SuperRally on Friday and the RallyCross competition on Saturday. This weekend marks the first time SRT USA's David Higgins has campaigned in a Rallycross format event. Jump practice was first on the schedule today, and went very smoothly for Higgins in his 2011 Subaru WRX STI. Though he had never previously attempted the huge 50-foot gap jump, he was immediately comfortable tackling this essential component of Rallycross.
The final event of the 2011 Rally America National Championship is underway at the New England Forest Rally. Spanning both sides of the border between Maine and New Hampshire, this event features one hundred miles of stage roads which follow shorelines and cross mountains with road conditions ranging from smooth and fast to rough and technical. Coming into the event, Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew sit at the top of the National Championship standings. While first place is always the preferred result, any spot on the New England Forest Rally podium will secure the championship win for Higgins and Drew in the #75 Subaru WRX STI.
Subaru Rally Team USA has moved operations to downtown Los Angeles as X Games 17 swings into full effect. The vicinity of the rally course was abuzz with spectators as the Skateboard Big Air practice and final proceeded throughout the day. The air was filled not only with the sounds of the cheering crowd and announcers over the PA, but also a chorus of impact wrenches and anti-lag as rally teams made final preparations for the evening's jump practice. After the Skateboard events finished up, a quick reconfiguration of barriers and a bit of water on the gravel readied the track for rally cars.
Dave Mirra Stages Comeback to Finish 2nd Overall at Season Opener Sno*Drift Rally
Subaru Rally
Team USA driver Dave Mirra achieved a rally career best 2nd Overall finish at the season opening Sno*Drift Rally via
a comeback late in the rally. Mirra, at the wheel of his 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally car, patiently moved up
the leaderboard after a tire puncture early in the rally dropped him down to 5th Overall.
Subaru Rally Team USA has arrived in Salem, Missouri for the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood, the second round of the 2011 Rally America National Championship. The race begins Friday after a Parc Expose in Potosi, MO, and will cover 120 miles of stage road through to Saturday night.
A cold calm set in as teams prepared for another day of racing near Salem, Missouri. Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew were 18.6 seconds behind first place at the start of Day 2 of the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood. The plan was simple: proceed with normal effort through the first two stages; and if the gap starts closing, push for the rest of the race. With their major Rally America National Championship rivals out of the running, any finish on the podium would suffice and excessive risks would be futile.
Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins has scored an X Games Bronze medal in his 2011 Subaru WRX STI during the Rally Car Racing competition at X Games 17. This is the first time David Higgins has competed in the X Games and his podium finish shows that he has taken well to the competition format. After winning their respective first rounds, both SRT USA drivers, David Higgins and Dave Mirra, were bracketed against each other in the Quarterfinals. It was an extremely close race in which Higgins secured the hole-shot and Mirra followed right on his teammate's tail. The turning point of the battle was when the two drivers came into the Joker lap, Mirra trailing just behind Higgins.
Day 2 of the Global RallyCross Championship's Round 2: Twin Peaks welcomed a sold-out crowd to the muddy grounds of the DirtFish Rally School at the Old Mill Adventure Park in Snoqualmie, Washington. Rally fans in the Pacific Northwest are known for their tenaciousness and this crowd was no exception as they withstood the cycles of wind and rain that punctuated the sunshine and racing in synchronicity with the event schedule. When the sun shone and the engines roared, the action was incomparable. The crowd witnessed everything from neck-and-neck drag races off the start line to overtakings, collisions, rolls, and even a forward somersault by one car who shorted the jump.
David Higgins has absolutely crushed the Mt. Washington Hillclimb course record in his 2011 Subaru WRX STI. Battling rain-soaked tarmac and treacherously low visibility, David Higgins piloted SRT USA #75 through two record-breaking runs of the 7.6-mile Auto Road. "It was a very big challenge because the road was still wet in spots and would turn very slick suddenly. With the clouds the visibility was so low I could hardly see past the hood of my car," explained Higgins. On the first run in his WRX STI, Higgins rocketed up the mountain twenty seconds faster than the outgoing record set by Frank Sprongl in 1998.
Subaru Rally Team USA has wrapped up a second day of testing at AutoClub Speedway in Fontana, California. The 2011 Subaru WRX STI RallyCross cars of the SRT USA fleet have performed flawlessly for the past two days and have provided team technicians a trouble-free opportunity to tune and refine the vehicles for competition. The focus of these test sessions has been on the finer details of car configuration, such as suspension setup, sway bar selection, gear ratios and engine settings. These Subarus will undoubtedly deliver an eye-popping performance at X Games 17!

Subaru Rally Team USA takes to the rural roads of Missouri for a fast-paced test session prior to the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood. "The feeling with our Subaru is very good," explained Higgins. "During testing this week we made some great progress and found some speed on the faster sections, which will be crucial at this event. Our goal is always to win, but I'm mindful that we are looking at the big picture and need to secure championship points first and foremost."

The final round of the 2011 Global RallyCross Championship has concluded with a dramatic final race just south of Colorado Springs, CO. Spectators packed Pikes Peak International Raceway on Saturday and the drivers signature session tent was mobbed as fans eagerly met with competitors. The racing got underway early in the afternoon and Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins won both of his heat races in his 2011 Subaru WRX STI. The car has really come into its own as a competitive rallycross machine and it was very exciting for SRT USA to see their hard work paying off. The A Main Final was fully stacked with an unprecedented eight vehicles on the starting grid.
In the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood has begun in epic style. An unprecedented sixty-three teams have entered this event, the second stop of the 2012 Rally America National Championship. Fast and flowing Missouri roads characterize this race, and they've been left parched and dusty by this year's strangely dry winter. In the early stages, the top three competitors tightly traded fastest times. David and Craig won Stage 2, but lost some time in the subsequent stages and ended the day just 18 seconds behind the lead.
With a second place finish at the New England Forest Rally in Newry, Maine Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins with co-driver Craig Drew have won the 2011 Rally America National Championship in a 2011 Subaru WRX STI.
Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew have raced their #75 Subaru WRX STI to an outstanding victory at the 2012 Oregon Trail Rally. At the Sunday morning Parc Expose in Dufur, Oregon, David and Craig had a relaxed demeanor afforded to them by the comfortable lead they earned the day before. Road conditions were significantly better and the team's 2012 Subaru WRX STI performed flawlessly as it rocketed along the scenic Oregon farmland under clear blue skies. Averaging two seconds per mile faster than their closest competition, Higgins and Drew pulled up to the podium with an astonishing lead of four minutes and twenty-six seconds.
The 2011 Oregon Trail Rally has culminated in an outstanding win for Subaru Rally Team USA. Piloting the #75 WRX STI, David Higgins and Craig Drew have scored a crushing victory and leapt to the top of the Rally America National Championship standings. After heavy rains drenched the roads to the point of stage cancellations Saturday afternoon, Sunday's schedule was up in the air. The precipitation abated just in time for the first stage, and conditions improved steadily throughout the day.
Keeping the pace set in their successful racing the previous day, David Higgins and Craig Drew won three of Sunday's stages.

The 2011 Oregon Trail Rally got underway Thursday morning at Pioneer Square in downtown Portland, OR. Fans and enthusiasts flocked to the square for a chance to meet the drivers and check out this weekend's lineup of top rally cars. Immediately following the Parc Expose, teams headed to Portland International Raceway to give press rides to journalists and other media. SRT USA's busy day concluded with a visit to Dick Hannah Subaru in Vancouver, WA, where the #75 WRX STI was on display and David Higgins and Craig Drew were on-hand to mingle with fans and sign autographs. The real action kicked off Friday evening as teams ran the first four stages of the rally at Portland International Raceway.
Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew are off to a phenomenal start in their 2012 Subaru WRX STI at the Sno*Drift Rally. Unseasonably warm daytime temperatures exacerbated the difficulty imposed by the already icy roads. Sand and slush on top of ice forced teams to take a cautious approach or risk damage in the unforgiving road edges, which are lacking their usual snowy cushion. After the first leg of five stages, SRT USA #75 had an early 1 minute and 47 second lead over rivals Antoine L'Estage and Nathalie Richard.
The 2011 Sno*Drift Rally marks the first event in which David Higgins and Dave Mirra will be competing together for Subaru Rally Team USA. Beautiful wintery conditions set the scene for the first race of this year's Rally America National Championship. Light snow is in the forecast and surface conditions are already very different from last year's treacherously icy roads. Speeds should be significantly higher this year as the hard-packed snow offers lots of grip, especially with gravel showing through in some spots.
The Rally in the 100 Acre Wood kicked off today in Potosi, Missouri with a half-mile spectator stage before the cars dashed off to the woods to run thirty-five miles of stage road in the surrounding forests. By the second stage, Subaru Rally Team USA had secured the rankings they would maintain for the rest of the day: David Higgins and Craig Drew in the #75 Subaru WRX STI are in second place with Dave Mirra and Marshall Clarke holding third place in the #40 WRX STI. A mere twenty-two seconds separates Higgins and Drew from first place on the scoreboard and Mirra and Clarke are down a minute from their teammates. Only a third of the event's total stage mileage has been run so far, so this race is far from over.
