Subaru Rally Team USA has moved operations to downtown Los Angeles as X Games 17 swings into full effect. The vicinity of the rally course was abuzz with spectators as the Skateboard Big Air practice and final proceeded throughout the day. The air was filled not only with the sounds of the cheering crowd and announcers over the PA, but also a chorus of impact wrenches and anti-lag as rally teams made final preparations for the evening's jump practice. After the skateboard events finished up, a quick reconfiguration of barriers and a bit of water on the gravel readied the track for rally cars. Subaru Rally Team USA's Dave Mirra and David Higgins each took a few passes over the jump. Both 2011 Subaru WRX STI rally cars flew straight and true and the drivers seemed completely confident in their comfort with the jump.
It was a light day for the rally racers at X Games 17; but, the real action begins bright and early Saturday morning. A two-hour session of full-course practice starts at 9AM and seeding immediately follows at 11. After a brief lunch break, the Rally Car Racing final takes place from 1 to 3PM. Rally Car Racing is the one-on-one competition format that has been hugely popular since its introduction to X Games in 2006.
