The Rally America National Championship Title is back in the hands of Subaru Rally Team USA. Through an exciting season culminating in a heated battle at the New England Forest Rally, SRT USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew have piloted the #75 WRX STI to victory in the 2011 Rally America National Championship. Winning three out of six events and finishing second in two others, the skilled duo of Higgins and Drew have restored the Subaru marque to the head of the pack and unquestionably proved the competitiveness of the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI in the most demanding of motorsports.
At this weekend's New England Forest Rally, David Higgins and Craig Drew raced the #75 WRX STI to a second-place podium finish. While maintaining a conservative pace and keeping their focus on winning the championship and not the race, David and Craig won three of the event's eleven stages. Extremely rough roads and low visibility through the heavily persistent dust demanded flawless teamwork from driver David Higgins and his co-driver Craig Drew. With the help of their Vermont SportsCar-prepared Subaru and the excellent team of technicians and management that comprise Subaru Rally Team USA, the duo were able to cut eleven seconds from the deficit they accumulated on Day 1. Higgins and Drew ended up an extremely comfortable three minutes and thirty-eight seconds ahead of Super Production champions Travis and Terry Hanson who rounded out the podium with their Subaru Impreza WRX STI in third place.
The excitement was palpable as the cars lined up for the champagne ceremony at the Sunday River Resort in Newry, Maine. Corks popped, champagne filled the air, and the crowd cheered as the 2011 Rally America National Championship came to its official end.
