On the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Mt. Washington Auto Road, Subaru Rally Team USA has entered driver David Higgins in a race to the 6,288 foot summit, known as the "Climb to the Clouds." First raced in 1904, the 7.6 mile ascent is the oldest motorsports event in the United States. This year, SRT USA's David Higgins will be campaigning this historic event in a 2011 Subaru WRX STI with more than ten times the horsepower of the vehicle that won the inaugural event. All of that power coupled with Subaru's incomparable Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive certainly provides a fantastic platform for attacking this mountain.
David Higgins has piloted the #75 WRX STI to the fastest time of both day 1 and day 2 practice sessions. Practice was run on the tarmac-only bottom half of the Auto Road, and tomorrow's race will include a sizable stretch of winding gravel. The festivities kick off tomorrow morning at the base of the Auto Road. Each competitor will get two runs up the mountain and the weekend's results will be determined by their fastest single run. Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins is very confident in the #75 WRX STI and feels that he can best Travis Pastrana's unofficial record-breaking run of last year. Can he make it below the six minute mark?
