Subaru Rally Team USA has edged closer to claiming the Rally America National Championship title with a podium finish at the 2012 Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally. Starting day two in 13th place overall, David Higgins and Craig Drew had their work cut out for them. Though the heavy downpour that cancelled stages Friday night added some uncertainty to the road surfaces, it also wetted the roads and saved competitors from having to navigate through lingering dust.
SRT USA management gave the thumbs up to "go for it," so Higgins and Drew did just that. Winning seven of ten stages raced on the second day, Higgins and Drew drove the daylights out of their 2012 Subaru WRX STI and finished the event in second place. Seeing the Vermont SportsCar-prepared Subaru driven at full attack through the Pennsylvania forests was an impressive sight that had spectators all but speechless. Although SRT USA #75 came up short to claim the win, the hard-charging Subaru will be a lasting memory for anyone who made it to the woods this weekend.
Next month, the championship continues at the New England Forest Rally in Newry, Maine on July 13-14.
