The 2011 Oregon Trail Rally has culminated in an outstanding win for Subaru Rally Team USA. Piloting the #75 WRX STI, David Higgins and Craig Drew have scored a crushing victory and leapt to the top of the Rally America National Championship standings. After heavy rains drenched the roads to the point of stage cancellations Saturday afternoon, Sunday's schedule was up in the air. The precipitation abated just in time for the first stage, and conditions improved steadily throughout the day.
Keeping the pace set in their successful racing the previous day, David Higgins and Craig Drew won three of Sunday's stages. They may have also set the fastest time on the final stage of the day; but, the three top finishers were assigned the same time for finishing faster than the maximum allowed average speed. A flat tire on Stage 16 cost the duo nineteen seconds, but SRT USA #75 had already performed so well throughout the race that they still ended the event a whopping three minutes and twenty-six seconds ahead of last year's champion, Antoine L'Estage.
This weekend's astounding victory puts Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew at the head of the 2011 Rally America National Championship. Two more events remain in the season for the team to defend their championship standings and demonstrate the awesome capabilities of the 2011 Subaru WRX STI. The next event on the schedule will see SRT USA back on the east coast for the Susquehannock Trail Rally in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania.
