Starting Day 2 with a massive lead, SRT USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew had few concerns as they climbed into their Subaru WRX STI. Ironically, David explained at the start, their one worry was driving slowly. "Anytime you try to slow down or drive conservatively you can lose your focus and make a mistake." It appears the duo didn't slow much as they proceeded to more than double their lead, winning the 2013 100 Acre Wood Rally by 8 minutes and 51 seconds. The road surfaces continued to be a challenge with some sections turning soft and muddy while shaded areas remained solidly frozen and very slippery. Regardless of the road surfaces, the Missouri spectators were out in force and determined to catch a glimpse of the action. Some spectator access roads had cars parked for a mile or more! The beautiful sunshine and temperatures above freezing was also a welcome change.
This weekend's win propels David Higgins and Craig Drew to the top of the 2013 Rally America National Championship points standings. With five events to go, lots of racing remains before we can crown the 2013 Rally America National Champions, but certainly SRT USA #75 is headed in the right direction. The season continues on May 3-5 in Portland with the Oregon Trail Rally.
