SRT USA is off to a fantastic start at the 2013 100 Acre Wood Rally. Despite snow and icy surfaces, David Higgins and Craig Drew expertly piloted their Subaru WRX STI to the top position and ended the day with a massive 3 minute 53 second lead. As expected, the weather stayed below freezing and clouds gave way to sunshine and clear skies as evening arrived. Surfaces ranged from unplowed snow covered roads in the morning to a tricky mix of grippy wet gravel and packed snow. This is an especially challenging surface combination since the grip can drastically change mid-turn sending cars off their intended line and possibly off the road entirely.
David Higgins commented before the start of the event that he had been looking forward to a proper battle in the typical high-speed dry conditions for which the 100 Acre Wood Rally is known. It appears Higgins won't get his battle this year - but with an almost four minute lead there is not much to complain about! The race continues Saturday morning with close to 80 additional stage miles spread over 10 stages. Check back tomorrow night for the final results!
