David Higgins and Craig Drew are narrowly in the lead after Day 1 of the 2013 Sno*Drift Rally. SRT USA #75 had an off on Stage 6 (The Ranch) but thankfully were able to continue. Limited damage to the front of their Subaru WRX STI was handled my ace driver David Higgins between stages. Craig Drew explained "David did some DIY repairs using duct tape and my shoelace. We went all out winning the next two stages re-claiming our lead." Winning 5 of 8 stages and completing 54 competitive miles Higgins and Drew ended Day 1 on top by a mere 0.5 second!
There was significantly less grip than expected and this was especially true on the stages that had been run previously in the day. However, overall the conditions are great for a winter rally with crisp temperatures in the teens and light snow falling on and off. The Michigan rally fans were undeterred by snow and cold and flocked into the woods as usual. Just about every stage had a bonfire somewhere! Saturday's weather is more of the same although the temperatures are expected warm. 77 stage miles remain which will be run over 12 Stages on Saturday. At 9:40pm on Friday SRT USA techs were hard at work re-prepping and checking the finely tuned Subaru rally machine. Check back tomorrow for the final results.
