Take your music on the road.

The Subaru iPod Interface allows extensive control of your iPod through the Subaru factory head unit and steering wheel controls (if equipped). While connected, the iPod's battery will be charged and text information can display playlist, artist, album, or song titles on the head unit. Choose from all the familiar play modes: repeat one song, repeat all songs, shuffle songs, and shuffle albums. You can even fast forward and rewind individual songs, Podcasts, or Audiobooks.

Never skip a beat.

Your iPod will be turned off when the vehicle's ignition is turned off, and will resume playback when the ignition is turned back on. If the head unit is switched to AM/FM/CD or Aux modes, the iPod will pause and resume playback once the ?SAT? button is pressed.

Out of sight.

The dock connector is located in the center console, freeing the interior of unsightly cables and keeping the iPod hidden from view.

Important information regarding 4th generation Nano and 2nd generation iPod Touch. Apple has changed the charging protocols in its newest products, and as a result those products will not recharge when connected with the iPod Interface. All other functions are still supported by the iPod Interface. Both 4th Generation Nano and 2nd Generation iPod Touch devices will operate properly when connected to the iPod Interface, but will not recharge.

Subaru is a developing a new version of the iPod Interface that will restore the charging feature. Check this website for updates on the release date of the new iPod Interface for Subaru vehicles.

Will the iPod interface work with my iPhone?

iPod functionality of the iPhone is supported, however the 3G version has not yet been validated for compatibility. The iPhone will not be turned off by the iPod interface when the vehicle's ignition is cycled off.

What features are supported?

  • Text display (Artist, Album, and Song information)
  • Support for Podcasts

  • Fast Forward and Rewind

Doesn't the vehicle already have an auxiliary input jack?

Most Subaru vehicles have an auxiliary input jack, which can be used for iPods, MP3 players, portable satellite radio tuners, and other devices. This universal connection method does not allow for text display and control through the head unit, steering wheel controls (if equipped), or battery charging. Turning battery powered devices on/off must be done manually each time the vehicle ignition is turned on/off. While switching among AM/FM/CD/SAT/AUX modes, the attached device will not pause and will continue to play selected content. Though the auxiliary input jack is very versatile, it does not offer the seamless integration of the iPod Interface.

What iPods are supported?

Please check your iPod and firmware version (Go to Settings -> About and look for the number next to version). Supported iPod models and minimum firmware version are shown below.
